VI. Read and answer the questions. Our college

My name is Oleg Ivanov. In June I left school and in August took my exams at Machine-building college. Level pass to our college was 16. My level pass was 15. Now I am a full time first-year student. I will be an economist.

Our college is situated in the center of my town. It takes me 15 minutes to get to the college by bus and 30 minutes on foot. Students from different cities, towns and villages live in our hostel. It is very convenient to live there, because they can easily get to the college.

Our college occupies three building: a main building, a laboratory and a hostel. There are five departments at our technical school. The headmaster and management work offices are on ground floor. On the ground floor we have also a timetable on the wall, an assembly hall, a conference room. On the first floor you will find computer classes, a library and college museum. There are many classrooms on the second and third floors, where we study Maths, Physics, Ukrainian, History, English, Literature and many others. Our labs with modern equipment, different classrooms and workshops are in the laboratory building.

Every day we attend lectures and seminars. Usually we have three or four double-periods a day. In the first year all the students study the same general educational subjects. They are Ukrainian, literature, a foreign language, sciences (physics, mathematics, and chemistry), social sciences. The students begin to study specialized subjects according to their specialty in the second year. They are either technical drawing or electronics, strength of materials or metal cutting, economy or furnaces, programming languages or chemical analyses. The academic session began on the first of September and will end in June. At the end of the term we will take exams and I shall try to pass them successfully and get grants. I do well because I want to become a good specialist.
